Thank you so much for signing up to participate in this year's exchange. I appreciate and enjoy everything everyone creates every year and I can't wait to see what you decide to write. Additionally, I am open to treats if you feel so inspired.

I do want to warn you that, although I am able to post on time, the end of the year also happens to feature some heavy events for me and my family. This means that I generally don't get around to reading Yuletide gifts until well into the New Year. Please do not feel discouraged by a lack of or a delayed response—it truly is a treat to see what each new round of this exchange brings and I am so, so appreciative each time.

Background: I love a found family on a boat. Water boat, space boat, doesn't matter. Sprinkle in some of that prickly, nothing went right backstory, a soupçon of "I loved you and trusted you but now?", a dash of asteroid mining? Y'all. I had so much fun with these books, and all from a chance glimpse of their covers. Yeehaw, space cowboy.

Suggestions: Maybe it's some of their backstory? Maybe they're on whatever people not in Star Trek call shore leave? Maybe it's a real Western (i.e., with horses & stuff)?

Background: I watched this movie for the first time this summer, already halfway towards tipsy, and had a blast. What a stupid movie made for exactly the right amount of too much money. I always like it when two idiots who hate each other have to save the world, so I had great fun. "Mahalo, motherfucker" indeed.

Suggestions: Maybe they're on a sports team? Maybe one of them is an...exchange...sailor...(there's got to be a word for it, I don't care enough to look)? Maybe they're in space?

Background: You ever watch an episode of television and just start yelling? You ever keep yelling for the whole of that show's run time and their hastily put together finale movie? Anyway. Love the weirdness Farscape brought to the table, and the absolute bananagram they created in the form of John Crichton Doing His Best To Deal With Trauma. More (fictional, oh god) suitcase nukes in the hands of people who have no qualms using them but can be held back by their one point of reason.

Suggestions: Maybe it's opposite day (i.e., Aeryn just got thrown across the galaxy & Crichton's the prisoner)? Maybe they go to therapy and things go well for once? Maybe an outsider (canon or OC) comments on just what the fuck is going on here on this spaceship?

Background: We here at My Brain are proud to present to you two idiots designed to make us point and go, "This guy, this is who I want to hear more about." Something about being bound to the land and/or being able to balance the reality of power dynamics with the kink of power dynamics really speaks to me. Plus, I love a sharp, mean bit of wit paired with the understanding that there's love there, all the way down.

Suggestions: Maybe a little bit more with how Alan is immune/magic resistant? Maybe Alan has magic, actually? Maybe Jack is more than biund to the land, he is the land (i.e., a genius loci slash Green Man sort of situation)?

Background: What do you meaaaaan he's the only one he can't tell is lying? What do you meaaaaaan he's so important that a malevolent wish machine popped out an exact copy as its dying gasp because he needed it that much? God, all of sci-fi has prepared me for this moment and also has a lot to answer for. I love the unspoken tension, the sharp edges, the way they fit and grate against each other, even as I'm also deeply unsettled by the sort of weird science slash X-Files type extraterrestrial insidiousness thats going on around them.

Suggestions: Maybe the two of them have a nice day? Maybe we see what horrors the future brings? Maybe they're in a more fantasy setting?

Background: The world that this movie posits is so stupid—Bouncers are famous? Famous enough that patrons care? Parrick Swayze went to NYU? Someone got the drop on Sam Elliott?—that I can't not ask for more of it. Plus, as you'll see from the relationships section, that dance in the diner really just wriggled its way inside my brain and won't let go.

Suggestions: Maybe we see how Dalton and Garrett meet? Maybe (in an everyone lives sort of way) we see what's next for the three of them? Maybe there's more of a Mad Max flavor to things?
